Book drive supporting Sussex foster organization

SUSSEX CO., Del. – Two young girls in Delaware are spreading some holiday cheer by collecting books for a local organization this holiday season.

Melanie Dasher and Amelia Kramer are part of an organization called HEY SIS. It was founded in 2013 and stands for “Helping Every Youth Succeed In School”. They are collecting 120 books for the Sussex County Foster Parent’s Association. They tell 47 ABC they enjoy giving back and think books are great gifts for kids.

“HEY SIS is an organization where we normally collect school supplies for the low income so they thought maybe we can also collect books,” says Melanie Dasher.

“I feel like reading is something that has the ability to give people so many different things, so many new experiences,” says Amelia Kramer.

They are collecting new or gently used books until the end of the weekend. They are focusing on collecting 30 books for each of the following age groups: 0-3 years old, 4-10 years old, 11-13 years old and 14-18 years old.
