SU professor honors veterans by mapping cemetery
SALISBURY, Md. – One Salisbury University professor is stepping up efforts to honor the hundreds of veterans who were laid to rest at Parsons Cemetery.
Geology professor Brent Zaprowski is mapping out the cemetery to help identify every single veteran.
Zaprowski says committee members at the cemetery believed there were up to 700 veterans, but he has found that there are more than 900.
Zaprowski adds that he made the discovery using a drone and websites like Find a Grave.
According to the professor, a lack of proper records and growing terrain have made it harder to identify every veteran.
“We should honor and respect our veterans, this is clearly one of the reasons why the cemetery is doing it and one of the reasons why I got involved to make sure our vets are properly honored like they should be every year,” said Zaprowski.
Zaprowski says that his ultimate goal is to catalog all of the veterans and help people identify them during special events hosted by the cemetery including Wreaths Across America.
