Smyrna makes it four in a row with win over Dover
DOVER, Del.- Holding the Dover offense to just ten points its the first three quarters, the Smyrna Eagles defeated Dover 36-26. The win improves the Eagles to 4-2 and the loss drops the Senators to 2-4 on the year.
On the first play of the second half, the Dover Senators were able to get off on the right foot. A handoff to Javon Peace wool go 30 yards down inside the ten yard line. The drive would end two plays later after Gavin Sembly picked off a Dover pass and took it down to the Dover 46 yard line.
The ensuing Smyrna drive would end on a 4th down handing the Senators the ball in decent field position around the 40 yard line. The drive would stall a few plays later on 4th and 3 to end the third quarter scoreless.
The next Smyrna would result in a touchdown, Aidan Sanchez fired a strike to Makhi Jackson for their second hook up in the end zone to extend the score to 28-10 in the fourth quarter. The Senators would finally answer back, Elijah Allen floated it over the defender to Gabe Evans who made a smooth one handed catch in the corner of the end zone. Dover down just ten points with five minutes to play.
On the next Smyrna drive, a fumble picked up by the Senators taken to the end zone would be called back for a block in the back on the return. Dover would end the drive four and out handing the ball right back to the Eagles with four minutes to play. Smyrna would put the game just out of reach on the next drive. A Wayne Knight touchdown then two point conversion would extend the lead to 36-18 and would hold on to win 36-26.
The Eagles return to action next Friday when they host Milford, the Senators look to get back on track when they welcome Polytech into town next Friday.
