Salisbury Zoo announces passing of 25-year-old female spider monkey

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury Zoo announced on Monday that their female black-handed spider monkey, “Amy”, has died.

Zoo officials say the 25-year-old monkey had been receiving medical care for advanced stages of cancer and passed away during surgery.

Amy was born in April 1994 at the Salisbury Zoo. The zoo has been exhibiting black-handed spider monkeys since the early 1970s and has a long history with spider monkey conservation.
