Salisbury Middle operating on modified Safe in Place procedures in light of recent incidents

SALISBURY, Md. – Police confirmed to 47 ABC today that several more fights broke out at Salisbury Middle School, prompting some parents to pick up their students early.

According to Wicomico County Public School Superintendent Dr. Donna Hanlin, the school is continuing to operate with modified safe in place procedures in an effort to increase safety.

We’re told this is not a lock down, but instead structured and supervised transition between classes, with enhanced supervision during the transition times. Instruction is still continuing, and students are following their usual class schedule.

She also went on to say that she spent time at the school Friday morning to see the environment for herself and to lend support to students and staff. She said that staff members did an excellent job, with support from other schools as well as the Central Office, and that the majority of students did what they were supposed to do.

There is no word on when this safe in place procedure will come to an end. 47 ABC reached out to Wicomico County Public Schools for more information through phone calls, texts, and emails, but we have not heard back.
