Police: Man tries to flee two separate accidents, DUI charges

WICOMICO CO., Md. – Maryland State Police say a man is facing charges after he tried to flee the scene of two separate accidents, Saturday night.

According to officials, Rogelio Segovia Gutierrez hit a telephone pole with his truck near 35639 Mt. Hermon Road, just before 8 p.m. Support lines were apparently broken on the telephone pole, debris from the crash was left at the scene and the 36-year-old fled.

Police say a few minutes later someone called to report a single vehicle accident, that matched the description of Gutierrez’s truck. The caller told police the driver was trying to get away from the scene but officers were able to get to the area before Gutierrez left.

Troopers reportedly noticed the smell of alcohol coming from Gutierrez so they did a field sobriety test and the driver did not pass. Gutierrez was arrested and taken to the Wicomico County Detention Center where he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, negligent driving and reckless driving.
