Parkside’s A+ Garden Center receives green business certification

SALISBURY, Md. – Students over at Parkside High School are doing everything they can to be more environmentally friendly. And all of their hard work is paying off. Earlier Wednesday morning, Mayor Jake Day and the city of Salisbury’s Green Team certified the Career Technology Education’s A+ Garden Center as a green business. Officials say the center takes part in a number of sustainable initiatives like water conservation, recycling, and nutrient management. And teachers tell 47 ABC it’s critical to teach students the importance of taking care of their surroundings.

“The main thing here at the garden center is the growing protocols that we use to make sure our plants are healthy, but at the same time without any nutrient runoff or the use of pesticides,” said horticulture instructor, Jerry Kelley.

The certification is all part of Salisbury’s recently implemented Green Business Certification program that recognizes businesses and programs that make a commitment to becoming more sustainable.
