One arrested, another still at large following drug investigation

LAUREL, Del. – Delaware State Police arrested one and say another is still at large following a drug dealing investigation in Laurel.

The investigation wrapped up on Thursday, involving 19-year-old Japree Ayres. Police say Ayers had previously been indicted by the Sussex County Grand Jury and was actively wanted on two Rule 9 warrants for drug dealing.

Ayers was seen leaving a residence in the 500 block of Center Street and was found to be in possession of 3.22 grams of marijuana. A search and seizure warrant was then obtained for that residence, resulting in the seizure of approximately 977 bags of heroin (6.844 grams), approximately 99.34 grams of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. There was also a juvenile present when officers arrived at the home.

Police say the residence is owned and occupied by Ayers’ mother, 42-year-old Rosalyn Ayers. She is currently wanted for maintaining a drug property, endangering the welfare of a child, and possession of marijuana.

Japree Ayers was charged with possession with intent to deliver heroin in a tier 4 quantity, possession of heroin in a tier 5 quantity, endangering the welfare of a child, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is currently being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution on $101,0000 secured bond.
