O’Connor’s big day boost Easton past WiHi
EASTON, Md.- Behind five touchdowns from Ryan O’Connor, the Easton Warriors defeated WiHi 49-27. The win improves the Warriors to 5-3 while the loss drops the Indians to 3-5.
The Warriors received the opening kickoff and wasted no time getting on the board. Four passes later and Ryan O’Connor found Harry Callahan over the middle and he walked into the end zone giving Easton the early 7-0 lead. The Tribe would respond on the ensuing drive though. QB Andre Matthews on the read option faked out everyone in the stadium, strolling into the end zone for the equalizer. The Warriors would put up a Brogan Stofa field goal to make it 10-7 after the first quarter. In the final seconds of the quarter, Ronnie Satchell would get the Indians on the board once more, an electric run across field to the end zone that would get taken off the board due to a block in the back.
In the second quarter, the Warriors would keep up their hot streak. O’Connor with his second touchdown through the air, this time to Shawn Warner in the back of the end zone to make it a 16-7 lead. Midway though the quarter, WiHi would cut it to a two point lead. From the goal line, Satchell pounded it in to make it a 16-14 lead with under three to play. On the ensuing Warrior drive, O’Connor getting his third TD of the half, a dime to Grant Copper to end the half. Easton up 22-14 at the break.
Opening the second half forcing a three and out, the Warrior offense keeping their foot on the gas. This time some success on the ground, Jarin Winters powered his way into the end zone making it a 28-14 lead. The Tribe looking to cut into the lead, would get some success of their own on the ground. Andre Matthews gets his second touchdown on the ground, this one a long one down the sideline to cut it to one score again. In the blink of an eye, Easton would get in the end zone again. O’Connor for his fourth TD of the game, another one to Copper. O’Connor would have two in the second half making it five on the night as Easton held off a late WiHi comeback to win it 49-27.
Easton will look to keep up their hot streak next Friday when they host Cambridge. The Tribe returns to action when they host Bennett also next Friday.
