New solar panels to be installed in Pittsville

PITTSVILLE, Md. – Town officials are gearing up for new solar panel installation that could help save the town thousands of dollars.

Town leaders say several hundred panels will take over some land near their water plant.

Their goal is to start construction some time in December.

The town recently got a 528,000 dollar grant to help make this project a reality.

According to the town, these new solar panels will help them save over 36,000 dollars a year.

Town officials say they will have to get rid of an abandoned building near the area in order to move forward.

“The big thing for me as the manager is the savings,” said Joe Mangini, the town manager.

“Anytime you can cut your budget by 3,000 dollars a month that’s a pretty good thing,” said Mangini.

Mangini says the town fell behind on the project after talking with the Maryland Historical Trust about whether or not the decades-old abandoned home was a historic site.
