Laurel man arrested following investigation into shots fired incident

LAUREL, Del. – Laurel Police are investigating a late report of shots fired that happened last weekend at the 1000 building of Hollybrook Apartments.

Investigation revealed that on October 19th, a single shot was fired from an upstairs apartment that went through the floor to a first story apartment below. Police were unable to make contact with the tenants of the apartment where the shot was fired, and entry was made to make sure no one was injured inside.

When officers got into the apartment, they made contact with 22-year-old Taj Trammell who was hiding in a bedroom closet. Trammell allegedly provided officers with a false identity and was detained as a result.

Further investigation revealed that Trammell had gotten into a physical domestic altercation with his girlfriend inside of the apartment, during which the victim tried to hide in the bathroom. Trammell fired a single shot at the victim, which missed, and instead traveled through the floor of the bathroom and into the apartment below.

A search warrant was obtained and executed at the apartment where the shot was fired and a loaded Glock .22 was found hidden inside. Trammell was also wanted out of Sussex Superior Court for failure to appear on a second degree rape charge from 2016, Sussex Superior Court for violation of probation, and Sussex Family Court for child support arrears.

He was subsequently charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, two counts of reckless endangering first degree, aggravated menacing, tampering with physical evidence, felony providing false statement to law enforcement, third degree assault, terroristic threatening, and criminal mischief. He is currently being held at SCI on $46,500 cash bond for his new charges, and $27,600 for his pending charges and capias out of the respective courts.

Police are asking anyone who may have information on this incident to contact Cpl. Bauer of the Laurel Police Department at 302-875-2244 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
