Kindergarten registration campaign kicks off in Delaware
DOVER, Del. – In Delaware on Friday kids, parents, and state leaders were at the Dover Public Library getting ready for kindergarten registration.
It may sound a bit early to already be talking about next school year’s registration, but now is the time to get your child ready to be in the classroom.
“Even though it seems like the current school year just started, for children who are going to be five by the end of next August, now is the time to register them for kindergarten,” Delaware’s First Lady Tracey Quillen-Carney said.
And one team in Delaware has made it their mission to help parents through the registration process: The Delaware Readiness Team.
“We consist of early learning providers, family members, school representatives, and childcare providers,” Diane Frentzel, with the Delaware Readiness Team, said.
On Friday, the team kicked off their Kindergarten Registration Campaign with music, dancing, and plenty of information for parents.
And while October seems a bit early to be talking about next school year, officials say now is the time for parents to start prepping their tots for school.
“It’s important for kids to be ready to learn when they get to kindergarten, and if you don’t register on time, your child starts behind,” the First Lady said.
But getting kids ready to be in the classroom is a group effort in Delaware.
“Our early childhood providers are helping to spread the word, our pediatricians are helping to spread the word,” the First Lady explained.
All of that is aimed at making sure kids are set for success right from the start.
“What we do is we come together to really support children aged birth to eight really get ready for school and life,” Frentzel said.
“If we want to give our kids the best chance to succeed, we need to get them all in there, on time, with the school knowing how many teachers they need, and all those things in place, just to give kids the best chance at success,” the First Lady said.
The Readiness Team will be traveling through the state for a few weeks to get parents ready. To find a time or place near you, you can head to their website.
November is officially kindergarten registration month in Delaware, so the team and other officials will be working hard to make sure every child is registered.
