Historic Powell Building to become retail hub, apartment complex

SALISBURY, Md. – City officials in Salisbury celebrated the groundbreaking Monday on a project to remodel the historic Powell Building. At the ceremony contractor Gillis Gilkerson and a number of other stakeholders revealed their plan to renovate the building. They plan to add 20 brand new apartments and 10,000 square feet of commercial and retail space. Main Street Kids will also be opening space on the first floor which will be designed to replicate a mini version of a city for children and parents to interact.

“We saw a diamond in the rough here. We think that the development of the Powell building and this mixed-use of apartments and Main Street Kids on the ground level is going to be a very significant impact on our community,” said Gillis Gilkerson Principal, Brad Gillis.

Contractors hope to have the project finished by the summer of 2020.
