‘Harriet’ set to open in Cambridge Oct. 31
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – “It’s a big deal to know that Hollywood is highlighting Ms. Tubman and think about her as well,” said Angela Crenshaw, park ranger at the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park.
On Thursday, after much anticipation the movie Harriet will finally get on the big screen in Cambridge.
“She was a normal woman born into horrible circumstances here in South Dorchester County born into slavery, could never read or write, but still did amazing things for her life,” said Crenshaw.
The movie highlights the story of the abolitionist Harriet Tubman who helped hundreds of slaves to freedom.
“The enslaved community was the background, the backbone of our progress as a nation and as individual states,” said Debby Smith, a visitor.
People Smith say the movie is a chance to celebrate our nation’s history and the strength of the black community.
“We owe the black community a debt of gratitude for all the work that they did to make the United States what it is,” said Smith.
But, ultimately, people tell us they hope Tubman’s story will inspire people to follow their dreams no matter what the obstacles are.
“She’s a heroine, she’s a hero no matter where you come from in the United States or even the world,” said Smith.
The new film Harriet will be released on Thursday at 8:45 PM at the Cambridge Premier Cinemas.
