Gov. Larry Hogan announces special election dates to fill Cummings’ seat

BALTIMORE, Md. – Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has announced the dates for a special election to fill the seat of the late U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings.

The primary election is scheduled for February 4th, and the special general election will be held on April 28th.

Cummings represented Maryland’s 7th Congressional District since 1996. He died from complications from longstanding health issues back on October 17th.

The district includes Baltimore and portions of Howard and Baltimore counties. The special general election will coincide with the state’s previously scheduled spring primary. Hogan’s office says that will avoid the cost and confusion of an additional election day.
