Fundraiser supports Fruitland officer battling cancer
POCOMOKE CITY, Md. – People came together in Pocomoke on Sunday in support of a Fruitland police officer battling a rare form of bone cancer.
Spencer Wiersberg has been battling cancer since early March and on Sunday dozens attended a Bowling for a Cause Tournament to help him pay for his medical bills.
According to his family, Spencer is facing his last hurdle.
He has two more weeks of radiation for his lungs, according to his mom, Gerrie Wiersberg.
We are told that Spencer will then receive a bone marrow transplant the start of December.
His donor will be his little sister Sam.
“I look at it, it’s saving his life and if it’s getting him through and if it’s going to be the last hurdle and hurrah that we have to get through then they can take all the bone marrow they need or have to,” said Sam Wiersberg.
“I’m here for him, and I’m just so thrilled that I can be that person,” said Sam.
We are told Spencer will be in Baltimore through about mid-march.
He and his family say they are grateful for the amazing outpouring of support that has been shown by the community.
