Dorchester Co. deciding whether to start school before Labor Day

DORCHESTER CO., Md. – The debate on whether schools should start before or after Labor Day is still on in Maryland, with many school districts now looking for input.

In Dorchester County, residents are being asked to fill out an online survey to get feedback on two calendar options for the 2020 – 2021 school year.

Calendar Option 1:

  • School starts September 8, 2020 (the day after Labor Day)
  • No Parent Teacher Conference Day included
  • Winter Break begins December 23, 2020
  • Spring Break is two days long
  • No inclement weather days are included
  • Last day for students is June 11, 2021 (inclement weather days will be added to the week of June 14)

Calendar Option 2:

  • School starts August 31, 2020 (one week before Labor Day)
  • One Parent Teacher Day is included
  • Winter Break begins December 21, 2020
  • Spring Break is three days long
  • Three inclement weather days are included
  • Last day for students is June 10, 2021 (if no inclement weather days are used)
