Decatur earns first Bayside win of season in dominant performance
BERLIN, Md. – Decatur broke a 4-game losing streak by defeating the Bennett Clippers, 42-6, Friday night.
Bennett was aggressive early, attempting to convert a fourth-and-two at their own 41 on their first drive. The Seahawks sacked quarterback Sam Blackmon for a 9-yard loss.
That play would be followed up by a 32-yard touchdown from Ashten Snelsire to junior John Hoffman.
Running back Devin Waters raced to a 54-yard touchdown on the following Decatur drive.
Bennett wouldn’t go away early, as Jordan Mitchell bounced to the outside on a handoff for a 35-yard gain on third-and-six, setting up a 1-yard quarterback sneak by Blackmon.
Decatur would reel off 28-unanswered points, including another touchdown run – this time from 8 yards out – for Waters.
Decatur (2-4) will play Wicomico High School at County Stadium on Thursday at 6 PM. Bennett (2-4) will travel to Ridgely to play North Caroline Thursday at 6:30 PM.
