Community honors fallen football star Troy Haynes
GREENWOOD, Del. – Though Troy Haynes may be gone his spirit both on and off the field lives on.
Sunday at Woodbridge High School hundreds came together to continue the mission to Fight Like Four.
“He was a great kid, like he’s made an impact all over,” said Keyonna, a relative.
“His memory is going to live forever,” said Keyonna.
“He was just a good spirit to be around and positive person,” said Mahki Hering, a friend.
People from all backgrounds family, friends, teammates, even those who had never met him remembered how this 19-year-old took the love of his community to new heights.
“He brought a community, he brought the state together,” said Keyonna, “Everybody is one now.”
“He brought everyone together as a whole,” said Hering.
Those who met Haynes say their lives will never be the same again and that they will never forget special moments lived together.
“I played him in basketball and football,” said Tymire Riddick, a friend.
“He always beat me in football, and he beat us my senior year in basketball too,” said Riddick.
The quarterback who helped the Blue Raiders to championships in division two football in 2016 and 2018 not only made an extraordinary impact on the field, but off the field as well.
“He was funny and he always had a big grin on his face,” said Riddick.
“He just lit up the day, and him in a room, it’s just positive energy no matter what,” said Riddick.
A beautiful ceremony to remember Troy Haynes, a fighter gone too soon.
“The thing that hurt me the most is that he was just getting started and he didn’t get to live out his dream,” said Riddick.
“He was probably going to go out to Mount Union to play as quarterback,” said Riddick.
There will be a 1st Annual Fight Like 4 Softball Tournament on November 2 and 3 at Jays Nest in Seaford to honor Troy Haynes. All proceeds collected at the event will go towards Haynes’ family.
