City of Dover raises awareness for opioid addiction

DOVER, Del. – City officials are stepping up efforts in their fight with the opioid crisis.

According to Dover Mayor Robin Christiansen, they are working closer with faith communities and local organizations this year to help combat the opioid crisis in the area.

Parts in and around city will also be lit in purple.

On Monday, police officers also received purple ribbons in an effort to raise awareness about opioid addiction.

It is something the mayor says is critical for the future of the Dover community.

“This isn’t some kind of fake news story, it is our reality and it affects quite a few of our families in our community and it needs to be addressed and put to an end now,” said Christiansen.

There will be several events happening this week in Dover to raise awareness. Events include a prayer walk and vigil, which will take place on Tuesday at Kirkwood and Division Streets at 4:30 PM.
