Child seriously injured in Del. car crash

MILLSBORO, Del. – Delaware State Police say a child was seriously injured in a car accident, Saturday night.

The crash happened at the intersection of DuPont Boulevard and Town Center Boulevard, near the McDonald’s and Royal Farms. Officials say a Selbyville man, driving an SUV, had a green light and took a right to go southbound. But a female driver in a different car did not stop at the red light, and hit the front right of the SUV.

The 59-year-old driver of the SUV was not hurt. However, the 51-year-old driver of the car was brought to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. A 4-year-old child, who was in a booster seat, was seriously hurt and taken to A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children. A male passenger in the car was not hurt. Everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt. There’s no word on the current conditions of those who were hurt.

Police do not believe impairment is a factor in the crash. The female driver is cited for failure to stop at a red light, driving without a valid license, and failure to have registration card in possession.
