BREAKING: Eden Puppy Mill defendant takes plea deal

SALISBURY, Md. – One of the defendants in the Eden Puppy Mill case learned her fate in court Monday morning.

70-year-old Susan Murphy faced a total of 96 animal cruelty related charges after officers found more than 300 dogs living on her property in deplorable conditions back in 2016. She pleaded guilty to 26 of those charges as part of a plea deal.

Murphy was sentenced to 60 days active incarceration with 10 months of at home detention and three years of supervised probation. She will also get credit for three days that she has already served.

As part of her at home detention, she will be allowed to leave to see a psychologist, as well as make occasional trips to the store to get food. Animal Control will also be allowed to make unannounced visits to her home, and she will not be allowed to get any more animals.

The judge also decided to allow Murphy to keep her chickens and parrots, as well as her two 11-year-old cats, as long as she could guarantee that they are unable to give birth.
