Stormwater project previously halted in Berlin, gains momentum

BERLIN, Md. – A stormwater project that was supposed to be completed by September 1st, is actually going to take a little more time. Officials say the project, also known as the Graham Avenue Project, was designed to help address flooding issues in the town. Officials announced the upcoming project back in January and said it would be completed by the 1st but they had a hiccup along the way. Mayor Gee Williams tells 47 ABC that the bid for the project cost more than they expected and needed more money to get started. But thanks to a $54,000 grant recently donated to the town from the Maryland Coastal Bays program, they now have the funding they need to begin the project.

“We had budgeted money for it, but the actual bids came in higher than we anticipated and this will allow it to be paid. It’s very good news because it keeps this storm water mitigation series of projects going and we won’t miss a year before we can attempt to go through the next stage,” said Gee.

Gee adds that the Graham Avenue stormwater project should be completed by fall or winter of this year.
