Smyrna takes down Central for first win of 2019
SMYRNA, Del.- Two touchdowns from sophomore RB Warren Knight boosts Smyrna past the defending state champs Sussex Central 20-7. The win makes the Eagles 1-2 on the year and the loss drops Central to 2-1.
It was all Eagles in the first half with Warren Knight scoring two touchdowns to make it 12-0 at the break. To start the second half, Smyrna would put more on the board, a Nick Richardson TD run up the gut from the one makes it 20-0 to end the third quarter.
Halfway through the fourth, Central would get a big spark, K’Tai Twilley scooping up a fumble and returning it 70 yards to the Smyrna ten. A few plays later, it was junior QB Mikey Glanden hitting Dom Smith in the back of the end zone to get the Golden Knights on the board with three minutes to play. Needing the onside kick to have a chance to complete the comeback, Central wouldnt be able to fall on it as Smyrna holds on to take it 20-7 over Sussex Central.
The Eagles will look to make it two in a row when they host Sallies next Friday. The Golden Knights will try and get back in the win column when they travel to Camden to take on the Caesar Rodney Riders next Friday.
