Smith Island residents urged to evacuate ahead of Dorian
SMITH ISLAND, Md. – A voluntary evacuation of Smith Island (Zone A-1) has been approved for tomorrow, Thursday September 5th.
National Resources Police will arrive at Ewell dock at noon, proceeding to Tylerton at 12:30 p.m. to transport anyone wanting to leave for the mainland. The Coast Guard will be at the Ewell dock at 3 p.m. and depart for Crisfield at 3:30 p.m.
Somerset County Emergency Services is monitoring Hurricane Dorian on a 24/7 basis, and although the hurricane is not an immediate threat, it is important for all residents and visitors to prepare for potential impacts from the storm later this week. Officials say storm conditions typically cut off essential services between the island and the mainland for a period of time, and that residents should carefully consider the potential need for essential services as the storm passes the area.
Anyone with specific questions or concerns should contact Emergency Services at 410-651-3457.
