Rough surf expected to stick around in Ocean City this weekend

OCEAN CITY, Md. – On Friday, Hurricane Dorian pushed through our area bringing heavy rain, wind and even flooding in some areas. Luckily, conditions should improve by Saturday morning, but the heavy surf is expected to stick around in places like Ocean City.

Ocean City officials say they expect to see more visitors than usual this weekend because it’s forecasted to be beautiful, but they want to remind everyone that since it’s after Labor Day weekend, they don’t have nearly the same amount of lifeguards that they do during the busy summer season. That means it’s more dangerous to enter the water.

On Saturday, even though it’s forecasted to be sunny and warm, the rough water will likely be sticking around… so before you enter the water, talk to a lifeguard.

Jessica Waters, the Public Information Officer for Ocean City said, “Go over to them, ask what the surf conditions are, make sure you’re not swimming without a lifeguard on duty. The last thing we want to come out of a beautiful weekend is a tragedy, so use extra caution especially at the beach this weekend.”

Remember to always keep your feet in the sand, until a lifeguard is in the stand. Lifeguards will be on duty from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
