Princess Anne man sentenced in 2018 fatal shooting

SALISBURY, Md. – A Princess Anne man will now spend 40 years behind bars for fatally shooting a Fruitland man in June of 2018.

28-year-old Johnathan MeGee was convicted of second degree murder, manslaughter, first and second degree assault, reckless endangerment, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, firearm possession with a felony conviction, use of a firearm in a crime of violence, and affray back on June 28th.

The charges stem from a June 6, 2018 incident, during which MeGee got into a fight with several people in the yard of a residence in the 600 block of Priscilla Street in Salisbury. During the fight, multiple people fired handguns, resulting in the death of Shawn Johnson of Fruitland.

MeGee’s sentence included 30 years for one count of second degree murder, 10 years for illegal possession of a regular firearm (to be served consecutive to the second degree murder count), and 10 years for the use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime, to be served concurrent to the second degree murder count.

We’re told the judge in this case considered the Maryland sentencing guidelines while ordering this sentence, which in this case recommended 25 to 40 years of active incarceration for MeGee. It was also noted that the maximum allowable penalty for second degree murder is 40 years of active incarceration.
