Police: Man crashes stolen vehicle into bus

DOVER, Del. – Dover Police arrested a man on Tuesday after he crashed a stolen vehicle into a DART bus.

Officers initially responded to the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at around 9:15 a.m. for a report of a stolen work truck in the area. When officers located the vehicle they tried to stop it in the area of Federal Street, however the vehicle continued traveling on Loockerman Street in an attempt to flee from officers.

As the vehicle approached the intersection of Loockerman Street and S. DuPont Highway, two passengers got out of the vehicle and surrendered to police, however the driver continued to flee. The driver failed to negotiate a turn in the area of River Road, subsequently hitting a stopped DART bus. A third passenger then surrendered to police, while the driver, 26-year-old Levi Collins, fled on foot.

Collins was taken into custody following a brief foot chase.

Three occupants from the bus sustained minor injuries and were treated and released from a local hospital. Police learned that the three passengers in the truck were not aware that it was stolen and repeatedly asked to be let out but Collins refused.

Collins was charged with receiving stolen property, disregard police officer signal, three counts of unlawful imprisonment, three counts of reckless endangering second degree, resisting arrest, three counts of vehicular assault third degree, aggressive driving, and several traffic violations.
