Piglet event, Facebook comments lead to backlash against Worcester Co. restaurant

WORCESTER CO., Md. – Piglets, little people, and Facebook comments – that’s what’s causing backlash against a popular restaurant in Worcester County after they held an event where little people wrestled piglets. But it’s Facebook comments that were made after the event that have people really reacting.

“Embarrassed, mortified, mad,” Brandi Mellinger said.

Brandi Mellinger has been drug through the mud, disparaged, called a fat pig for voicing concerns about a local event.

But that feeling and those comments were created by an account held by the Oasis Bar and Grill, but apparently not the owner, who avoided our calls, but after some backlash, posted a message denying any involvement with the post.

But here’s the thing: Brandi, unlike others on Facebook, says she’s found a way past the insults and is back to focusing on the event that used piglets.

“My original post, and quite honestly my only concern, ever, was the four little piglets,” Brandi said.

And Brandi’s not alone. Others have concerns about the use of little people, like Lizzy MacDonald, who’s an advocate for people just like her.

“I read the headline and I’m like oh, that’s not surprising at all,” Lizzy said.

In fact, Lizzy has a history of battling with Oasis over events using little people and believes events like this will only continue.

“That’s just who he is, he makes us out to be a mockery, you can’t change him,” Lizzy said of the owner.

Still, Brandi says she’ll continue to fight and hopes events using animals for entertainment won’t happen again.

“It’s not okay to do those things, even if they open up next bike week, hopefully this doesn’t happen again,” she said.
