Parkside runs away with rivalry win over WiHi
SALISBURY, Md- The Parkside Rams football team moved to 2-1 on the season, defeating city rival WiHi 28-13 on Friday night at Wicomico County Stadium.
From the opening kick, the Rams established their dominance. Junior returner Travis Waters fielded the kick at the 18-yard line and proceeded to go 82 yards untouched down the right sideline to give Parkside a 7-0 lead just 15 seconds into the game. After a WiHi punt, the Rams would again cash in. On fourth down, running back Jabronte Mills executed a halfback pass to perfection, tossing a 24-yard touchdown to Rashir Evans.
Trailing 14-0 midway thru the second quarter, WiHi would respond just before the break. Ronnie Satchell would cap off a drive with a 4-yard score. The Rams would take a 14-7 lead into halftime.
Parkside would take a 21-7 advantage with 3:30 in the third quarter off a 1-yard QB sneak by Makai Smiley. Needing a touchdown drive–the Tribe would counter with a drive down to the Ram one yard line. The next snap, WiHi would fumble, and the ball would be recovered by Parkside as the third quarter came to an end.
To seal the game up, Parkside’s Alijah Bivans took a handoff 56-yards for another touchdown with 6 1/2 minutes remaining in the game. Trailing 28-7, WiHi’s Andre Matthews would carry in a 13-yard touchdown as time expired in the contest.
Parkside (2-1) will travel to take on Queen Anne’s next week, while WiHi (1-2) hosts Cambridge.
