Ocean Pines community mourns loss of an icon
OCEAN PINES, Md. – A pillar in the Ocean Pines community, Girls Scouts, Star Charities, and so many more organizations is gone, but the legacy Anna Foultz leaves behind is larger than life.
“She will be a hard act to follow, because she set the bar so high and her drive was always to make sure that she maintain that spirit of giving,” said Ocean Pines Association president Doug Parks.
Her spirit of giving over the decades touched so many lives. This included the Alzheimer’s Foundation, the homeless, helping to send care packages to troops overseas, and of course, the Girl Scouts who she remained with and championed until the end.
“(Anna) always had a cause, always wanted to help somebody. Never stopped,” said Barbara Peletier, the vice president of Star Charities.
We spoke with Anna’s daughter Tuesday over the phone who was sorting through the lifetime of awards and accolades she had earned. All of this without use of a computer or a cell phone.
But more will be on the way, as the Ocean Pines Chamber announced Monday that Foultz will posthumously receive a lifetime achievement award.
“Everybody will miss her. She was into everything. There wasn’t an organization she didn’t belong to in the Pines. She was always there,” said Peletier.
Now, those who worked with Anna to realize her visions of giving will work to fill the void.
The leaders of Star Charities will meet next Monday to figure out where they go from here.
Barbara also mentioned that they will discuss a memorial service in her honor, and hope to bring all of the organizations she was a part of to help collect for Anna’s favorite event, Holiday Gifts for Soldiers. The drive is among the biggest events of Star Charities.
