Ocean City prepares for the return of H2Oi
OCEAN CITY, Md. – H2Oi, a controversial car event, is set to return to Ocean City this weekend.
Jeremy Wrubleski, a participant of H2Oi said, “Love the car scene, it’s going to be a good time.”
To help keep the unsanctioned event under control this year, the Town of Ocean City will be designated as a Special Event Zone from Wednesday through Sunday.
Ashley Miller, the Deputy Communications Manager for the Ocean City Police Department said, “Safety is our number one goal.”
In the Special Event Zone, speed limits will be reduced to just 30 miles per hour, and fines for violations will spike.
Miller said, “It reduces our speed limits and makes the fines increase to up to $1,000.00”
Cops won’t just be patrolling the roads, though. They will be monitoring the sidewalks as well.
Jessica Waters, the Communications Manager for the Town of Ocean City said, “We will have officers both in patrol and undercover who are going to be patrolling the area.”
Anyone who gets caught encouraging drivers to burn out this week, will be given a hefty fine.
Waters said, “We can cite people for inciting others.”
Fortunately, the drivers we spoke with on Tuesday say they don’t plan on breaking the rules.
Wrubleski said, “I don’t want to spend any money on tickets, I spent enough on gas coming down here.”
