Ocean City pounded by heavy surf, strong winds

OCEAN CITY, Md. – On Friday, many of our coastal towns felt the impacts of Hurricane Dorian.

In Ocean City, there was heavy surf, high winds and substantial rain.

Ryan Fahringer, a spectator said, “I was expecting the rain, but the wind is pretty crazy!”

Friday’s extreme weather attracted a large crowd of spectators to the Ocean City Inlet.

Joe Branch, a spectator said, “Man, there’s something about this that draws people to it, they have to see it.”

Everyone just wanted to catch a glimpse of Mother Nature’s power.

Jason Daly, an onlooker said, “Well we just really like to feel this wind and we really like when the rain pelts us!”

Further inland though, it was more of a headache than a spectacle.

Fahringer said, “There’s flooding on the streets in Ocean City.”

Some roads had to be closed off in Ocean City due to the flooding. Those roads included Philadelphia Avenue from Wicomico Street to South 1st Street, and St. Louis Avenue from 1st Street to Talbot Street.

The good news is, this extreme weather is expected to clear up by Saturday.

Waters said, “We really expect a really beautiful weekend despite what it looks like today.”
