New intergenerational center coming to Cambridge
CAMBRIDGE, Md.- What was once a simple idea, is finally becoming reality as community and state leaders celebrate the next step in bringing a one-of-a-kind center to the area.
“It’s a true investment for a lifetime. This is going to touch lives today, it’s going to touch lives tomorrow, and so forth and so on,” said Delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes.
The intergenerational center, which is being built right in the heart of Cambridge, will be a place where children, seniors, and those with disabilities can come together to create a therapeutic and uplifting environment.
“It’s good to be able to bring the young people together not so young,” said Maryland Lieutenant Governor, Boyd Rutherford.
“It will be a nice area for people to kind of exchange ideas and say hello and have snacks and talk to one another and kind of grow together,” said center President and CEO, Santo Grande.
Officials tell 47 ABC the center will also offer a number of programs like cooking and meditation classes, drama and music performances, and more. And they say it will have a lasting impact on Dorchester County and the state as a whole.
“This is going to bring forth jobs, this is going to bring forth a stronger community,” said Sample-Hughes.
Officials add that while they’ve still got a ways to go before the center is complete, they’re looking forward to the impact it will have on the community for years to come. Grande says the center will also be adding a childcare service that will be available to about 60 families. Construction on the intergenerational center is expected to be complete in about 18 month.
