Locals not worried about Friday storms

Chincoteague, Va – Schools and government offices in Accomack County have already announced they will be closed Friday due to inclement weather as Dorian approaches. Despite that, locals on Chincoteague Island don’t seem concerned about the upcoming storm.

“Not at all I’ve lived here for quite a few years and we go through it all,” said Scharlene Leonard.
Leonard tells 47 ABC that she lives on the waterfront and that water has come up to their door several times, but they’ve never gotten any damage.
The 47 ABC storm team is predicting wind gusts between 50 and 60 mph, some coastal flooding in low-lying areas and heavy rain.
For Pat Vamvas though, she says the only preparation she’s doing is tying things down.
“I moved my plastic chairs and my garbage pail,” said Vamvas, “Everything was just moved so it can’t blow, break any windows just precautions, common sense.”
Thursday locals and tourists alike were on the beach taking pictures of the rough surf. Many telling 47 ABC they will be coming back on Friday to watch the storm come in.
“If I can get over here before I have to go to work, I will definitely come to check out the ocean. I love seeing it stormy,” said Mary Ann Dierolf.
If you do decide to go out, officials do stress that you should use caution and of course, do not go into the water.
