Lewes home destroyed in fire, under investigation
LEWES, Del. – A home in Lewes was completely destroyed after it caught fire, Monday night.
The Lewes Fire Department responded to the 3500 block of Acadia Lane, in the Coastal Club neighborhood, at 8:40 p.m. When firefighters got to the scene, they found a single family home with “heavy fire showing from the front” of the home. According to the Lewes Fire Department, the homes on both sides of the fire were also in danger because of how close they were to the flames.
Fortunately, no one was in the home when the fire started and no injuries have been reported. However, the siding on nearby homes were melted but no serious damage was done. Crews got the fire under control in about one hour. The home is ruled a “total loss”.
Crews that helped the Lewes Fire Department include: Rehoboth, Indian River, and Milton as well as fire police, Sussex County EMS, Georgetown and Slaughter Beach.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. This article will be updated as more information is released.
