Health Dept. unveils new tool in fight against addiction
SALISBURY, Md. – A new tool is helping parents be on the lookout for signs of drug use by their children.
The Wicomico County Opioid Intervention Team unveiled their new educational trailer, which is set up as a normal teenager’s bedroom.
When parents visit the trailer, they’re able to take a tour of the bedroom and see common hiding places, or warning signs, that they may have missed in their teen’s bedroom.
Health officials say showing parents places they may have never thought of is one way to fight the opioid epidemic.
“You would be so surprised, these things are hidden in plain sights, things that you walk by every single day, and you would never have any idea that it is a potential hiding spot or somewhere that your children could be keeping drugs or paraphernalia,” Christina Bowie-Simpson, Opioid Coordinator with the Maryland Health Department, said.
The trailer will be traveling across Wicomico County and making appearances at different events.
The next time you can catch the trailer is on September 10th at the boat parade and resource fair taking place at Brew River.
