Emergency officials urge people to ‘Know Your Zone’ ahead of tropical storm

SOMERSET COUNTY, Md. – Safety officials are urging residents to know their evacuation zones ahead of the potential tropical storm nearing the eastern shore. Officials say in order to find this out, people can actually go online and use a tool called Know Your Zone. We’re told the tool uses a color-coded interactive map that you can use to determine which storm evacuation zone you live in based upon your street address. Officials add that knowing your zone also helps you know where to go in case of emergencies like flooding, so you and your family stay safe.

“It will talk to you about your risk for flooding and what the current situation is for your community. Knowing your zone helps because when they call for evacuations they will often called by zones and you certainly don’t want to miss that notification,” said Somerset County Department of Emergency Services Public Information Officer, Julie Widdowson.
