Eastern shore delegate becomes second-in-command to Maryland House Speaker
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Maryland Delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes is preparing for her new role as speaker pro tem of the house. Recently, Maryland Speaker of the House, Adrienne Jones, announced Sample-Hughes was chosen as her second in command. Sample-Hughes also happens to be the only democrat from the shore in the house. As speaker pro tem, Sample Hughes will be responsible of taking over and leading the House chamber during floor sessions when Jones is not there.
“To serve in this capacity, it certainly brings new challenges and new opportunities, and it’s going to be an opportunity for me to work stronger with my colleagues and make changes to polices that maybe need to be changed along the lines of economy, economic support,” said Sample-Hughes (D) District 37A.
Sample-Hughes who was previously a member of the Wicomico County Council, has represented parts of Dorchester and Wicomico counties on a state level since 2015.
