Dozens attend community opioid forum

SALISBURY, Md. – Dozens of people sat in Oak Ridge Baptist Church on Wednesday night, all to talk about addiction in our community.

The forum was hosted by Wicomico Goes Purple, the Church, and the Health Department, and welcomed all members of the community.

Panel speakers, including a former addict, speakers from the Health Department, and more, all spoke on how addiction has impacted their lives.

Community members were encouraged to ask questions and, of course, were given resources where anyone struggling could receive help.

Organizers tell 47 ABC this type of event is important to get conversations about addiction started.

“Being in a safe place, which is where we are tonight, you’re encouraged to ask questions, it’s just really awesome, and we’re just able to spread so much education and awareness here this evening,” Chrissy Bowie-Simpson, with the Maryland Health Department, said.

Organizers add that while forums have been hosted in the past, this was the first partnership between Wicomico Goes Purple and the Church.
