Dorchester County celebrates 350th anniversary

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Hundreds of people gathered in Cambridge on Sunday to celebrate 350 years of Dorchester County, while reflecting upon its rich history.

The event took place at the Dorchester County Courthouse.

People got the chance to unravel different items from inside a time capsule that was sealed back in 1969.

Some of the items found includes pins, letters, journals and ribbons.

The event also hosted demonstrations and reenactments highlighting Dorchester heritage and history.

Community members say this anniversary is just one way to remember history.

“There’s so much history in Dorchester County that it’s worthwhile to think about,” said Myriam Zijp-Koedijk, a board member at the Nanticoke Historical Preservation Alliance.

“Some people go to church and do that there, and others just read and reflect,” said Zijp-Koedijk.

After September 25th, items found in the time capsule will be on display at the Dorchester County Visitor Center at Sailwinds Park.
