Del State’s hot start fizzles out as they fall to Howard on Homecoming

DOVER, Del.-  After shutting out Howard 7-0 in the first quarter, Del State gave up 24 unanswered falling to the Bison 24-9 on Homecoming. The Hornets fall to 1-3 on the season .

The Hornets were hot out the gate, taking the opening drive to the end zone capped off by a TD pass from freshman Tyler Bethea to Kwannah Kollie to make it    7-0 DSU. The defense also dominating early, holding the Bison to zero points in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Howard would explode on offense. Led by Caylin Newton, brother of Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton, who accounted for three of the Bison touchdowns (2 pass, 1 rush).

One bright spot for the Hornets, the defense led by Brian Cavicante with 12 total tackles, just 315 yards allowed on the day.

The Hornets return to action when they travel to Greensboro North Carolina to take on North Carolina A&T next Thursday.
