Del. State Police hosts school bus safety initiative
BRIDGEVILLE, Del. – Delaware State Police were out in the Bridgeville area Tuesday morning, making sure kids got on their school buses safely.
We’re told troopers from Troop 5 hosted a school bus initiative for the Woodbridge School District. Ten troopers in marked and unmarked patrol vehicles followed ten school buses through the entire route to their schools, with a goal of enforcing the school bus law in an effort to keep children safe in our community.
Police say two motorists were issued a traffic violation for passing a school bus on Tuesday.
The troopers in marked vehicles also made sure that they were visible being buses to help deter violations, and school bus pamphlets were handed out to educate the public on the school bus law and penalties.
Delaware State Police want to remind drivers of the state’s “Rules of the Road” to keep children safe when they are getting on or off a school bus. In addition, it is very important to remain aware of the presence of children waiting for the bus during the morning and afternoon hours since it may be dark outside as children are trying to get on and off the bus.
