Clay Conaway rape trial: Day 6
SUSSEX CO., Del. – Day six of Clay Conaway’s rape trial is over in Georgetown. For the first time, the jury heard Conaway’s side of the story as they watched a video of him being questioned by a detective about two months after his accuser says he raped her.
In the 40 minute long video, Conaway is questioned by a Delaware State Police detective. One of the first things that Conaway says to the detective is that he doesn’t understand what’s going on and doesn’t seem to remember his accuser at first.
Later on though he did admit that he and his accuser did have an intimate encounter in June 2018 but maintained they never had sex. He also said that his alleged victim never said “no” or to stop, despite her having a panic attack while they were hooking up.
About halfway through the video, Conaway appears to get more nervous, shaking his leg and putting his hands on his head. After that he admitted that he did ejaculate onto to the victim and that “maybe the tip slipped in just a little bit”.
Previously in the trial, his accuser did say that she told him to stop and that he continued anyway. However in the video, Conaway maintained everything that happened was consensual.
A DNA analyst, the mother of Conaway’s accuser as well as another friend of the accuser were also cross examined on Monday. Tuesday, the Delaware State Police detective is expected to be cross examined. Clay Conaway is also set to testify at some point during this trial.
