Christian Shelter hires first ever Executive Director
SALISBURY, Md. – After about a year of searching, the Christian Shelter in Salisbury hired it’s first ever Executive Director.
Anthony Dickerson, the new Executive Director said, “One of the board members gave me the information and they encouraged me to apply.”
Dickerson has big plans for the homeless shelter.
Dickerson said, “One of the things I would love to achieve is to have a Career Center and a Life Skill Center upstairs.”
Right now, the second floor of the Christian Shelter remains largely empty. It’s only used for storage, but Dickerson hopes to see that change.
Dickerson said, “So if you have a child care facility and they can search for jobs right here, while they put them in a child care, register over there, now you can search for jobs on computers let the employers come and interview them.”
That’s not all Dickerson hopes to achieve. He also wants to build a playground outside of the homeless shelter, and he hopes to transform the shelter into a place where people can truly turn their lives around.
Dickerson said, “Hopefully this Christian Shelter will be a one stop shop where individuals won’t have to go various places to seek counsel or to seek assistance.”
To get all of this done, Dickerson plans on heading out into the community to get people to donate to the cause.
“Basically I am going to be out and about trying to get additional donations and to get individuals to provide financial resources for the shelter so that we can function and so that we can better serve our guests,” he said.
Dickerson said he has a friend who is a barber who will be visiting the shelter each week to provide free hair cuts. He also said he is hoping to work with landlords to get people into housing and to keep them there.
