Xylitol showing up in CBD products for dogs
SALISBURY, Md. – Pet owners – listen up! A deadly ingredient could be in products you’re feeding your four-legged friend.
It’s called Xylitol, and it’s extremely poisonous to dogs. The ingredient has been popping up lately in CBD products for dogs, and now vets and owners are warning others to keep an eye out for it.
“It’s in diet candy, it’s in peanut butter, it’s in CBD apparently, it’s in gum, and it can cause their blood sugars to drop severely and they’ll go hypoglycemic in about 15-20 minutes,” Kim Engst, a veterinary technician, said.
Engst says the only symptom you’d notice if your dog ate Xylitol is weakness, so if your dog is weak, you should take them to the vet immediately.
