Woodbridge Middle welcomes new principal

BRIDGEVILLE, Del. – Woodbridge Middle School has a new principal taking the reigns this fall.

Tara Downes will be leading the Sussex County school. Downes has 15 years of experience in Maryland Public Schools. She tells 47 ABC she’s using the concept of a bridge to inspire students and staff this year. B.R.I.D.G.E. stands for “Building Relationships with Innovation Differentiation Grit and Equity”. Downes says she feels like middle school can be a rough time for some students so she’s excited to make it a positive experience.

“I feel like they are the most important grades. I feel like not everyone has a wonderful experience in the past in middle school. I feel excited to be able to help create that safe environment and love of learning for students who are in that transition period and just trying to figure out who they are,” says Tara Downes, the new principal of Woodbridge Middle School.

L’Tanya Cain is also joining Woodbridge Middle School as the assistant principal. She replaced the previous assistant principal in the middle of last school year.
