White Marlin Open: $6.1 million in prize money

OCEAN CITY, Md. – The 46th annual White Marlin Open is a record breaking year for the tournament.

Officials say 404 boats registered this year with 389 boats participating on Monday. There’s $6.1 million up for grabs in prize money this year.

Organizers tell 47 ABC that there’s so much money being awarded because anglers can enter multiple levels, essentially taking a gamble on the fish they catch.

“All the boats get into at least one or two added entry levels. They are all optional and you can spend as little as $100 or you can spend as much as $32,000 in the added entry levels. But this is a record payout for us and the biggest payout in the world ever for this,” says Jim Motsko, the founder of the White Marlin Open.
