Troopers, DART ask shoppers to help Sussex County students by stuffing the bus

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – For some families finding that extra cash to buy school supplies can be a challenge. So Delaware State Police, along with DART, held their annual Stuff The Bus event in Rehoboth Beach Wednesday to help out.

A DART bus, along with a few trooper vehicles, were brought in to bring attention to the event. Shoppers at the Rehoboth Beach Walmart received a list of items kids need for school, including pens, pencils, notebooks, and most importantly, backpacks. The goal is to fill the bus and make sure the items go to students most in need in Sussex County.

“I would feel that, as a student, you’d start out thinking that you were at a deficit. So if we can alleviate that stress, I think it starts all those kids off on an even playing field,” said Cpl. Juanita Huey, with the Community Outreach Unit with Delaware State Police.

If you want to help out there’s still time. The community outreach team will be collecting items at Delaware State Police Credit Union banking locations through the end of the month.
