Salisbury Regional Airport seeks FEMA distribution center
WYE MILLS, Md. – Wicomico County officials are working closely with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to bring a distribution center for disaster preparedness to the area.
Currently, FEMA is not on board with bringing a distribution center to the Salisbury Regional Airport. That is because they are worried about flooding.
FEMA is instead suggesting building a staging area.
A staging area would not be a permanently fixed facility, but rather a large open facility that trucks can get in and out of to safely distribute resources.
“As far as distribution center that would have to be looked at on a nationwide scale,” said Nick Morici, from the FEMA Congressional External Affairs.
“It would have to adhere to all the nationwide criteria that distribution centers in this country are regulated by, so that’s probably not a possibility,” said Morici.
On September 12, officials will review a study that will help to determine the future of FEMA at the airport.
